Passion Project Write-up

As a cyclist, I feel as though the quality of current trail apps on the market are subpar. Some of them aren't that fast, sleek, or even robust. What I have seen several apps do well seperately, I fail to see offered in one single app.

I want to bridge the gap between riding and navigating. By creating a mobile application that makes use of Google's Map API and local data aggregated by the state, I can give cyclists and hikers a product that they will enjoy using and help foster a desire to spend more time outdoors.

I want to create this app to offer users an easier time taking alternate routes to their destination, whether they feel unsafe or uncomfortable on the main roads, or want to enjoy the scenic views that an off-road trail can offer. I would also like to include bicycle repair guides for common mishaps that can happen on a ride. Something else that could be helpful would be locations of bike shops, places that offer air for tires, or places to grab food along your route. With the addition of a weather API, I could include the current weather, or predicted weather at a specific time and recommend appropriate riding gear. One other thing I would like for this app to be able to do is have a news feed sort of this that displays updates from the East Coast Greenway and other cycling/trail news or updates.
